Disturbing Footage Captures Moment Officers Get Knifed in Unexpected Assault
One police sergeant that leaped to the help of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knifeman has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a weapon to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist subsequent to a road collision in the area in July 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a electric weapon.
"Policeman stabbed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his communication device.
Bodyworn and dashboard camera video released by the agency revealed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood up, approach to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade pointed forward.
He ran into the policeman who lost balance and fell to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the pavement despite being continually attacked with the knife.
Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a open target, ending the confrontation to an finish.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get assistance on my neck now, I've been stabbed in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell sustained two lacerations to his neck and further cuts to his arms and body, while Sergeant Foster suffered slash wounds.
Officials reported Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stop his fellow officer's hemorrhaging before emergency responders arrived.
The latest award arrives after the three officers were granted organizational Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local officer association in early 2024.
They further earned a Area Valor Recognition in July 2024.
"The actions of each policeman ultimately protected each other and ensured no bystanders endured any harm."
Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, per authorities.
